Tumbleweed

Tumbleweed is a dance company based in Brussels and Zürich, founded in 2017 by Angela Rabaglio, a Swiss choreographer and dancer, and Micaël Florentz, a French choreographer, dancer and musician. Through constant dialogue, inspired by travel, science, nature and philosophy, and by an ongoing physical, technical and artistic curiosity, they have composed their own understanding of movement, the body and its language.

Angela Rabaglio is a freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher living in Brussels, born in Zurich (CH). She absolved her education as a dancer at the AHK in Amsterdam (de Theaterschool; MTD), and obtained in 2013 her Bachelor diploma in contemporary dance. Upon that she created her first Solo wind-up birds and polaroids, with which she performed at several festivals in Europe. She received for her work the Encouragement Prize at the Barnes Crossing Solo Duo Festival in Cologne and the Audience Prize in Budapest at the SzoloDuo Festival.

As a performer, Angela has been dancing for four years with the Company Alias in Geneva (Guilherme Botelho) and more recently with Protoype Status (Jasmine Morand, CH). She is also part of several artistic creations by the Cie Ici’Bas (CH), as a dancer and/or choreographer. In the past, she has participated in several shorter projects and improvisation performances and has collaborated with different artists, such as Mitia Fedotenko, Itamar Serussi, Ingrid Berger Myhre, LaborGras and Simon Berz.

Thanks to different influences in dance and other sources of movement inspirations (martial arts, climbing, yoga, dabké) she is developing gradually her personal physical practice, by melting old and new traditions. Angela occasionally teaches workshops and classes for (semi-)professional dancers, circus students, children and amateurs.

Micaël Florentz is a freelance artist living in Brussels, born in France. He is originally coming from a musical background and dedicated himself over the last years to his proper music compositions (guitar, voice, electronic music), performing in France and Belgium, under the pseudonyms of Bielka and Blaukraut. Besides his solo work, he has collaborated with the french artist Judith Juillerat.

Since 2014, he has been diving into a profound physical research and is developing his proper language in dance, through autonomous training, following classes, workshops and the foundation of Tumbleweed. The same curiosity that he is manifesting for all kind of sound creations, he brings along into his choreographic research, together with a solid knowledge of composition. Movement has always been a fascinating and necessary part of his life, but only since he started dancing, he began to define his energy traveling through the body and canalizing it into creative spaces. At the same time, he is profiting from the absence of codified movement vocabulary and is gradually collecting and carving his own tools.

On 18 November 2018, Angela Rabaglio and Micaël Florentz created the duo The Gyre in Winterthur (CH). The piece has been touring extensively in Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Iran, Morocco, Jordan… The Gyre won the Distribution Prize at La Grande Scène 2018 (Arles), with the support of the French network Les Petites Scènes Ouvertes during the 2019/20 season, as well as the 2019 Partner Award (Dansateliers Rotterdam) as part of the RIDCC International Duet Competition in Rotterdam (NL).

In 2022, Angela and Micaël created the group piece A Very Eye at Les Brigittines (Brussels).

In 2023, they created the trio Dehors est blanc in Paris (MC93, Bobigny), as part of the Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis. This piece was also performed at the Biennale de Lyon.

In 2025, Tumbleweed created the duo Threshold at Les Ecuries (Charleroi), as part of the Charleroi Danse Biennale and the Objectifs Danse platform.

In August 2026, Angela and Micaël created La terra gira, a site-specific group piece, in collaboration with dancers from Dance Well in Bassano (IT), as part of the B.Motion festival.

In 2027, Tumbleweed will stage its first production featuring children, Un Monde Réel (creation 2027).

Angela Rabaglio & Micaël Florentz - Tumbleweed are Associated Artists at Charleroi danse – Wallonia-Brussels Choreographic Centre (2026–2029).
