perfect pitch (2021) - Baptiste Cazaux

Tone corrector allowing to sing in tune and aesthetic tool for creating fictions, the Autotune software is a standard in the production of contemporary music. Baptiste Cazaux, passionate about the notions of transformation, variation and hybridization, deconstructs the mechanisms of virtuosity and is interested in the relationship between artistic technique and fragility. Created in collaboration with the performer and electronic musician Nelson Schaub aka Maître Paintre, perfect pitch oscillates between mastery and awkwardness and reflects on amateurism as a creative bias, transformer and generator of new forms.

perfect pitch is a ballet passed through the mixer, a self-tuned lyrical song, a detuned orchestra from which shines a very deep desire to perform, a great humanity transgressing the relations of domination and alienation created by the so-called classical technique.

A premiere for professionals of perfect pitch took place on March 6 & 7th, 2021 at Festival Les Printemps de Sévelin (Lausanne, CH).

This is Baptiste Cazaux’ second piece, after the duet EXERCICE DE STYLES #2 (2019).
